Families

For families, counselling provides a safe, non-judgemental environment in which to discuss difficult issues and emotions. These issues may be around divorce or separation, new family dynamics, siblings, parenting, anorexia, bereavement and so on. This is where my Tool Box approach comes in and I may use one or more of the following approaches to problems: general discussion,  role play, games, play therapy or art therapy - the choice depends on the clients and their issues.

"While pregnant and after the birth I was very unsure of myself. Lynda helped me to see I can enjoy being a mum and was in fact very good at it."  40 yr old mum of twins.

Children and Teenagers

Counselling provides a safe environment in which to discuss fears and worries without feeling judged or pressured by parents or peers. A time and place to experiment with thoughts, maybe express ideas or emotions in some form of creative activity. Young children often don’t have the vocabulary to express what they are feeling. This is where they can use play and art as means of effective communication.

Women

Women's lives often consist of many elements, home, partner, children, work and leisure etc. Sometimes all this starts to unravel and you need to have help. If this is not dealt with often the whole family can suffer.

Pregnancy - Many women feel let down by the whole process of pregnancy and childbirth. They feel they must be a “bad mother” because they didn't enjoy being pregnant and the birth was not “wonderful”.  Very few women express this fact so the myth of serene pregnancy and childbirth go on. I provide a safe place to talk these feeling through and start to rebuild self confidence.

People are embarrassed to talk about miscarriage or still-births. “Put it behind you and get on with life” is a saying one often hears. Some women can achieve this but many can’t. Counselling can help. It gives women permission to grieve, then move on.

Rape and Sexual Assault are very delicate topics. Often women can’t speak about  their experiences and withdraw into themselves. Art therapy can help.
